One thing I always like to keep in mind when I am talking about change is to remember that long lasting change is a gradual process. It’s a skill that is learned with practice, much like riding a bicycle. Changing your life overnight is impossible, and attempting to do so is a guaranteed failure.
With that in mind, I decided to create this series to give you small changes or “skills” that you can begin implementing now to create a better life. They are all simple, but I challenge you to learn them, practice them and apply them. Remember that small changes eventually add up to huge results!
Skill #1 Learn to OWN Your Life.
I decided to make this our first skill because it is the one that I see people ignore most often. To be successful, you need to learn how to OWN your life. Own your failures, your body, your pain and even the most shameful memories of your past. OWN IT ALL!
Stop identifying yourself with the circumstances you are dealt and playing a victim in the movie that is your life. You are not broke. You are not unlucky. You are not fat. Sometimes you don’t have money. Sometimes luck goes against you, and you might have room for improvement when it comes to your health and fitness, but YOU ARE NOT these things. Find out who you are when you remove the labels. To be successful, you need to rid yourself of your self-defeating mentality.
Ask Yourself This Question…
How do you determine your self-worth? Think about this long and hard because that answer could highlight the areas of your life that you need to change. While you victimize yourself and wallow on your sorrows someone, somewhere, is going through the same and looking for solutions. Stop being a victim of your circumstances. Embrace your ability to learn, grow and achieve. This is the best way to start taking control of your life.
